River Carron OS maps 56-57

The Carron flows from the Industrial river Forth at Grangemouth and makes its way, through Langlees, Camelon, Larbert, Denny, Dunipace, Stoneywood and Fankerton through the countryside to Carron valley reservoir.

The water was in decline during the Industrial period in Falkirk due to pollution but over the last few years has made a fantastic recovery with wild life, Salmon and sea trout now making yearly appearances on the water alongside the wild and stocked Brown trout.

Salmon can be seen leaping the dam at Larbert viaduct along with the resident kingfishers and herons  that are dotted along the river.

The Salmon can not get past the paper mill dam at Fankerton.

A special mention should go to the Larbert and Stenhousemuir angling association bailiffs whom stock and maintain the water.

Season permits are available at a reasonable price and day tickets are also available.

Paul the head bailiff is a knowledgeable and friendly individual who will help and give advice, to those seeking information on all aspects of the river.

Our man on the water Mij, will keep you updated on events during the season in 2007.
